Affordable Housing Program

The Affordable Housing Program started in 1995, simultaneously with the Step-Up Apprenticeship Initiative, to provide on-site training for public housing residents and additional housing opportunities for low income families. Our Affordable Housing Program offers clients who are interested in purchasing a home the opportunity to own completely renovated or newly constructed single family homes with minimum down payments. Some partner agencies provide assistance with down payment and closing costs.

Steps to Affordable Housing "First Time" Homeownership Program:

  • Complete Preliminary Application to determine income eligibility, assets and obligations
  • Complete Counseling work shops that covers, but not limited to, budgeting, home maintenance, credit counseling
  • Contact Agencies that will assist with closing cost, utilizing various grants, such as Ship and Home funds.
  • Homebuyer connect with lender that has been approved by Broward County Housing Finance Authority
  • Homebuyer is offered one of the Housing Authority's rehabilitated or newly-constructed homes
  • Lender approves loan application
  • Homebuyer closes on home
